The verdict is in: the 2010 Ford Mustang is the best pony car ever from Dearborn, according to TheCarConnection.com.

TCC drove the new Mustang at the world premiere out in Los Angeles recently, and reports that not only does the 2010 Mustang look even better in person, but that it also drives better.

"It's clear where Ford spent its Mustang development dollars for 2010," reports Rex Roy. Aside from a completely new body and interior, Ford also buffed up the Mustang's V-8 engine and handling. The V-8 is pretty much the same as in the former Bullitt edition, so it makes 315 horsepower. It comes with a choice of five-speed manual or automatic transmissions.

Most of TCC's time was spent in the 2010 Mustang GT with a manual gearbox and new 19-inch aluminum wheels. "V-8 engines are a wonderful thing, especially when you can hear the rumble of their exhaust echo off canyon walls," Roy enthuses over the 'Stang. "Acceleration was immediate and ample. The action of the five-speed's linkage was smooth; each gear change delivered a satisfying mechanical 'snick.'" And even with big wheels and tires, the Mustang rode well, thanks to a recalibrated suspension and more bracing in the chassis that makes for a stiffer structure.

Outside, the Mustang's profile wears a few more creases and a little better detailing; inside, the materials are much better than before, and there's now real aluminum trim available, along with a navigation system and Ford's SYNC entertainment controller.

As for pricing, V-6 models begin at just $21,000 while the GT starts at $28,000, undercutting the 2009 Dodge Challenger and the pricing we expect from the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro. The bottom line? The Mustang keeps getting better.
